Protect your work area, prepare your materials and make sure you have glue, glue brushes and paint brushes on hand.
Step 1Use your Wooden Dad as a template. Trace around the body onto the back of some felt and adhesive foam to create his clothes. We used grey foam for trousers, black foam for a belt, and blue and white felt for a shirt. We also used brown felt for one of our Wooden Dads’ hair, and yellow felt for the other Dad’s bow tie. Carefully cut out your Wooden Dad’s clothing.
Step 2Assemble your 3D Wooden Dad before decorating to ensure easy construction. For permanent assembly you will need to glue the pieces together.
Step 3Give your 3D Wooden Dad a coat of white paint. Allow to dry. This is not essential but provides a good base for painting.
To create a skin tone colour mix a small amount of brown paint into your white paint.
Step 5Paint your Wooden Dad’s face and hands with a skin tone colour. Allow to dry.
Step 6Cut out a photo of your Dad’s face and glue it in place on your Wooden Dad’s head, or you can create a face using cut-out pieces of felt and foam and a pair of wiggle eyes.
Step 7Stick/glue your cut-out clothing onto your Wooden Dad; or you might like to paint his outfit on instead.
