Baker's Twine String Ball

  • Beach/natural sand will be required to complete this activity.
  • Step 2Using a small funnel, fill your balloon with sand.
  • Step 3Push and squish it until you are happy with the shape and the amount of sand and then tie a knot in the end.
  • Step 4Dip long strips of twine into slightly watered down PVA glue and wrap them around the balloon. Once you are happy with the amount of string, set it aside to dry completely.
  • Wipe the excess glue from the string before it is wrapped around the balloon. This will preserve glue and stop too much dripping.
  • Step 6Once dry, cut the end of the balloon off to release the sand.
  • Step 7Pull the balloon out of the string ball.
  • Step 8Wrap some gold metallic string around the string ball a few times and then tie it off. Leave a piece of string at the end that can be tied into a loop for hanging.
