Step 1For the large pencil holder you will need 32 natural popsticks or 16 giant popsticks. Trim off one end of 28 (or 14 if you are using giant popsticks) of these popsticks to make them straight along the bottom.
Step 2Glue seven popsticks together on their sides. Repeat three more times to make four sides! With the four remaining popsticks, cut them to be slightly smaller than the width of one side. Glue to the inside of each of the sides to give them extra strength and to hold them together better.
Step 3Glue each side together to form a box.
Step 4Paint every second popstick with a coat of paint. We chose glitter paint to add sparkle.
Step 5To make the smaller pencil holder you will need twenty-four natural popsticks. Trim off one end of twenty of the popsticks. Trim them so they become about 3-4cm shorter than the large box.
Step 6Make the smaller box in exactly the same way as you made the large box, but instead use five popsticks for each side, not seven.
Step 7Once you have two painted pencil holders, place them flat on a desk and glue the smaller holder to the side of the larger holder.
Alternatively you can use giant popsticks instead of natural popsticks for this activity. Markers can be used instead of paint as well.
