Stained Glass Autumn Leaf

Make the most of the Autumn sunshine with a beautiful stained glass leaf to hang in your window.

Search terms: fall, season, nature, leaves, garden, window.

  • Self-adhesive book covering will be required to complete this activity.
  • Step 1Use the template provided to cut out your leaf shape from black paper. Set aside.
  • Step 2Prepare your cellophane pieces. Cut small squares of yellow and red cellophane. Set aside.
  • Step 3Carefully cut a square out of your book covering that will fit over your entire leaf shape.
  • Step 4Peel the paper backing from the book covering to reveal the adhesive surface.
  • Step 5Stick your leaf shape onto the book covering. Don’t worry that the book covering sticks out beyond the outer edge of the leaf shape – you will trim the excess book covering later on.
  • Step 6Decorate the inside of your leaf shape with your cellophane pieces, attaching them to the adhesive area of the book covering. Overlap the cellophane pices to create different shades of red, orange and yellow.
  • Step 7When the inside of your leaf is completely covered with cellophane pieces, cut another square out of your book covering that will fit over your entire leaf shape.
  • Step 8Peel the paper backing from the book covering to reveal the adhesive surface.
  • Step 9Stick this piece of book covering to your leaf shape, so that the entire leaf is covered and both adhesive surfaces of the book covering pieces are facing inwards. This will make your artwork more strudy and ensure all the cellophane pieces remain in place.
  • Step 10With scissors, carefully cut around the outer edge of your leaf shape, trimming off the excess book covering.
  • Step 11Now that your stained glass leaf is complete, hang it up in the window and see the beautiful image you have created shine through.
