Sun sensitive paper uses the sun to create a print. Any area that is covered with paper sequins or marker will remain light blue. The area that sees direct sunlight will become a dark blue colour.
Step 1Create a design on an acetate sheet. The decorated acetate sheet will be placed over the sun sensitive paper before moving it into the sunlight.
Step 2Use tape to secure paper shapes on the acetate sheet. Use a marker to draw patterns and words on the acetate sheet. You can also sprinkle sequins on acetate sheet.
Step 3Leave the sun sensitive paper in the black light tight bag. Take your decorated acetate sheet and the packet of sun sensitive paper into the sun.
Step 4Pull the paper out from the black light tight bag (one at a time), place it active side up and quickly cover it with the decorated acetate sheet.
Step 5Leave the paper developing in direct sunlight for about 3-7 minutes (You will see the paper changing colour).
Step 6Once the paper has been in the sun long enough quickly immerse it in water for 2 minutes. This will secure the print you have created.
Step 7Remove the paper from the water and allow to dry out of the sun.
Step 8Make sure you keep the sun sensitive paper in the protective black light tight bag until the moment you make the print.
