Refugee Week provides a platform where positive images of refugees can be promoted in order to create a culture of welcome throughout the country. The ultimate aim of the celebration is to create better understanding between different communities and to encourage successful integration. By enabling refugees to live in safety, they are able to continue making a valuable contribution to Australia.

  • Step 1

Download and print out the template. We recommend you print it on cover paper as this will provide a great surface for decorating.

  • Step 2

Decorate the template. We have used coloured pencils and glitter glue. You could also use paint, markers or crayons.

  • Step 3

Arrange the 3 hands in a semicircle and lay the WELCOME shape in the middle so the fingers are sticking out from behind it. Secure with glue and allow to dry.

  • Clever Tip

If the paper used has started to curl or is not stiff enough to hold flat, simply glue it down onto a sheet of card and cut out for a sturdy backing.

  • Step 4

Flip your sign over and use tape to attach a paper straw to the middle of your sign.

  • Step 5

Wave your sign proudly throughout Refugee Week and celebrate the valuable contribution that refugees make to Australia!
