In this guide we will be showing you how to create a Dracula bag. This will show you the basic principles on how to construct your bag, which you can then use to create a variety of other Halloween related characters!
Step 1Take 2 plates and hold them so one is on top of the other. Use scissors to carefully cut approximately a quarter off the top of the plate so you now have 2 large pieces and 2 small pieces. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors.
Step 2Now it’s time to paint! When decorating the large plate pieces, you only need to paint the back of the plates (the raised side of the plate, not the concave or food side). Paint one of the large pieces using black paint. Mix purple and white paint together to create a light purple mixture. Paint the other large piece with this mixture. Use the light purple to paint both sides of one of the small plate pieces as well. Allow to dry.
Step 3Cut the small purple piece of plate in half as shown. These will be Dracula’s ears!
Step 4Place the black plate piece face down in front of you, then lay the ears on top so they stick out either side as shown. Place the large purple plate piece facing up over the top.
Step 5Carefully staple through all three plate pieces on each side so the ears stay in place. Staple all the way around the curved edge of the plates to construct your bag. Make sure your staples are reasonably close together so your treats won’t fall out!
Step 6Lay the bag over a sheet of black paper, positioning it approximately 7cm down from the top of the long edge. Use a pencil to sketch a curved line from the top edge of the plate up to the top of the paper. Remove the bag and sketch in two black curved lines that meet at a point in the middle as shown to make Dracula’s hairline. Use scissors to carefully cut the shape out and then glue it in place on the top of the bag. Allow to dry.
Step 7Create eyes using the leftover piece of plate from step 1 and some black paper. Cut two larger ovals from the white paper plate, then cut two smaller circles from the black paper. Use a hole punch to create a hole in each piece of black paper before gluing them onto the white ovals. Glue in place on Dracula’s face and allow to dry. Finish Dracula’s face by drawing on a smile and fangs using a permanent marker.
Step 8Use a hole punch to create a hole in either side of the bag above the ears. Cut a 1m length of satin ribbon and thread each end through a hole on your bag. Tie knots to hold the ribbon in place. Your Paper Plate Halloween Bag now has a handle and is ready to take Trick or Treating!
