Character Profile and Portrait

Download Activity Template
Create your own character using descriptive language like adjectives and adverbs, as well as alliteration! This activity can help you explore how authors, like David Walliams in his book ‘The World’s Worst Children’, construct characters effectively. Use the Character Profile Templates to fill in your characters traits and then draw a portrait to illustrate them!
  • Step 1Download and print out the templates provided. We recommend printing onto cover paper as this provides the best surface for creating your profile and portrait.
  • Step 2Using your understanding of descriptive language like adjectives and adverbs, create your own character using the Character Profile page. Fill in each section using descriptive words.
  • Step 3Use the information you have filled out to sketch some design ideas or elements under the brainstorm heading.
  • Step 4Create your Character Portrait on the second page of the provided templates. Refer to your Character Profile whilst drawing. Decorate your design using your choice of craft materials. Allow to dry if needed. Don’t forget to add your character’s name in the box at the bottom of the frame!
  • Step 5If you wish, you can cut along the grey outline around the portrait frame. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors.
  • Step 6Your Character Portrait is now ready to display!
