Diwali Pyramid Lantern (Diwali Kandil)

Step 1 Decorate your Cardboard Pyramid using watercolour paints. We have decorated ours using the main Diwali colours of red, yellow, magenta and blue, but you could decorate yours however you like. Allow to dry.
Step 2 Use a hole punch to create holes over the 4 triangle shaped sides of the pyramid – this will be where your light shines through. Make sure to punch a hole near the tip of the pyramid on two opposite sides.
Step 3 Pull each of the pyramid sides up one at a time like you would if assembling your pyramid. Use a pencil to mark where the holes you punched overlap with the flap that will fold underneath. Lay the pyramid flat again and then hole punch those sections out as well so once assembled, the light will be able to shine through.
Step 4 Use a gold permanent marker to draw beautiful patterns over the top of your watercolour design.
Step 5 Assemble 3 sides of the pyramid using glue on those flaps to secure. Make sure one of the flaps with a hole at the tip is left free. Allow to dry before turning an LED tealight on and placing it inside the pyramid.
For use with a battery operated LED tealight candle only. DO NOT use with a naked flame. Do not leave the lantern unattended while on.
Step 6 Place the last side of the pyramid into position but don’t glue it! We want to be able to open and close it to get the LED tealight in and out. Use a gold chenille stem to create a handle for the lantern by threading it through holes at the top of the pyramid. Twist the ends together to secure. The handle will also hold the pyramid closed while in use!
Step 7 Your Diwali Pyramid Lantern is now ready to hang for Diwali celebrations!
