Mandala Drawing Guide

Mandala drawing is a mindful activity that is wonderful for exploring concepts such as symmetry, patterning, colour, and balance. Our template provides two options of mandala guides. The first is a good option for younger children or those just learning about mandalas as it has less segments, while the second has more segments to create a more detailed design.
  • Step 1Print out the templates provided. We suggest printing onto cover paper as this will provide a nice surface for decorating and designing your mandalas.
  • Step 2Choose either the first or second template to create your design.
  • Step 3Take a pencil and begin drawing shapes within the different sections of the guide. Think about repetition, symmetry, and balance as you create.
  • Don’t let the guides constrain your creativity. You don’t have to fill in every section – you may wish to turn the eight sections of the first template into just four by ignoring the diagonal cross lines. You might also choose to ignore some of the concentric circles – it’s totally up to you.
  • Step 4Once happy with your design, strengthen the pencil lines by tracing over them with a permanent pen.
  • Step 5Add colour to your mandala using markers. Cut out your mandala. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors.
  • Step 6Your Mandala is now ready to display! You may like to mount it onto a contrasting piece of paper, frame it, or display as is.
