How to Tie a Sliding Knot!

Sliding Knots are a great way to create an adjustable fastener for string jewellery!

  • Step 11. After completing your bracelet or necklace, make sure to leave at least 10cm of string on both ends before tying your sliding knot.
  • Step 22. Overlap your string ends so they are facing opposite directions.
  • Step 33. Take one end and make two big loops around the other string.
  • Step 44. Take the same end and thread it up and back out through both loops. Tighten the knot.
  • Step 55. Repeat steps 3 and 4 with the other string end to create the other half of the sliding knot.
  • Step 66. Cut off any excess string, leaving at least 2cm after each knot. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors.
  • Step 77. Now you’re ready to wear your bracelet! The knots will slide to loosen or tighten your bracelet when you pull them while holding the opposite string.
