Australian Hat

Create your own wearable Australian Hat! Keep the flies off your face and the sun out of your eyes this summer!
  • Step 1 Use green fabric paint to coat your entire hat. Allow to dry.
  • Step 2 Use a pencil to sketch a design onto your hat. We have chosen to use the kangaroo sign that you see on many Australian roads!
  • Step 3 Use fabric paint to add colour to your design! Allow to dry.
  • Allow your hat to air dry and then heat set with an iron or tumble dry to make it colour fast.
  • Step 4 Wrap embroidery thread around a cork by crossing it over at the bottom to make a cross. Then tie the ends at the top together, leaving one end long. This will be used to attach it to the hat in a later step. Repeat with 4 more corks.
  • Step 5 Use a sewing needle to attach the embroidery thread and the cork into the brim of the hat. Push the needle gently through the brim and tie a knot in the end of the thread. Cut off any excess thread using scissors. Your hat is now ready to wear!
