Step 1Download and print out the templates provided onto regular A3 copy paper. Carefully cut out the front and back template pieces. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors.
Step 2Overlap the long edges of two sheets of beige coloured cover paper by around 2-3cm then glue in place. Allow to dry before folding the new larger sheet of paper in half short edge to short edge.
Step 3Take the “FRONT” template piece and align the edge with the grey “ALIGN THIS EDGE” text to the folded edge of the beige cover paper. Trace around the template with a pencil being careful to hold it in place with your other hand as you trace.
Step 4Cut out along the traced lines, then unfold to reveal the full front section of the collar.
Step 5Repeat Steps 2 to 4, this time using the “BACK” template piece, to create the back section of the collar.
Step 6Fold a sheet of warm yellow cover paper in half, bringing the long edges together. Refold one of the collar sections and lay it on top of the yellow paper to use as a template. Trace around the outside curved edge then place the collar section to the side. Draw a straight line approximately 5cm out from each end of the line you traced then sketch following the curve to join the ends together as shown. Cut out around the shape to create two pieces of trim for the collar. Glue the trim onto the collar piece and allow to dry.
Step 7Repeat step 6 using the other section of the collar so both the front and back have pieces of yellow trim attached.
Step 8Peel and stick four loop Clever Dots along one of the “tabs” that stick out from the back section of the collar. Place four hook Clever Dots on top of these tabs so the adhesive side is facing upwards. Repeat this on the second “tab” of the collar. Take the “front” section of the collar and align the top edges over the tabs. Press the front section down in place so the adhesive of the Clever Dots sticks in place. You will now be able to use the Clever Dots to carefully undo and re-secure the collar so you can wear it and remove it.
Step 9Take another sheet of beige coloured cover paper and trace a flat party hat onto it. Cut this out, making sure to also cut the slots and holes and glue it onto the cardboard party hat. Allow to dry.
Step 10Take another sheet of warm yellow cover paper and trace around the curved edge of the party hat. Freehand sketch a curvy line below the line you just traced, then sketch another curvy line above following this line as shown.
Step 11Cut out the shape. Glue the side with the pencil marks down onto the party hat along the bottom edge to create a trim. Allow to dry.
Step 12Assemble the party hat then use a black marker to draw your pencil tip. Attach a length of elastic by threading and tying it through the holes on either side of the party hat and trim any excess. Your Pencil Hat and Collar are now ready to wear!
