Step 1Assemble your egg basket using glue to secure and allow to dry. Paint the basket white, you may need to give it a few layers of paint for full coverage. Allow to dry in between coats.
Step 2Take a triangle felt sticker and 2 wiggle eyes to create the chicken’s face. We have rounded the top corners of the felt triangle for the beak, but this is not necessary. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors. When you are happy with the positioning of the pieces, secure the eyes in place with PVA glue and peel the backing paper off the sticker and press down in place. Allow to dry.
Step 3Use a flower sticker to create the chicken’s comb. Peel off just enough backing paper at the bottom and stick it to the top of the basket as shown to avoid any adhesive surface being visible from behind.
Step 4Cut 2 flower stickers into chicken feet shapes - you can use our image as a guide. Remove the backing paper and stick in place at the bottom of the basket.
Step 5Now the chicken’s features are complete, decorate the rest of the body using felt circle stickers. Don’t worry if some of the circles go off the edge – simply trim with scissors when you’re done.
Step 6Now the front part of the basket is complete, you can decorate the sides and back. We have used felt flower stickers. You may wish to follow our design or come up with your own!
Step 7Take your chosen colour of soft yarn and tie it onto the basket handle, making sure to leave a long tail with the loose end. Hold the loose end towards the back of the basket and begin to wrap the yarn over and around the handle and tail of yarn. Wrap as much of the handle as you like and when you’re finished, tie the yarn off onto the tail piece and trim any excess.
Step 8Fill your basket with natural raffia. This will look like the straw that chicken’s nest in, but you can also use tissue paper or shredded paper instead.
Step 9Your Chicken Basket is now ready for some eggs! Take it with you on your Easter Egg Hunt or fill with treats and gift to someone you love.
