Step 1First we want to stain the string art board using liquid watercolour. Protect your work area by putting down a splash mat or some scrap paper. Squeeze some of the watercolour directly onto the board and use a fan brush to spread the colour all over the surface. Allow to dry.
Step 2Use a permanent marker to colour in the edges of the board. This will give your artwork a more finished look.
Step 3Print and cut out the template provided. Lay the template over the string art board and use a hammer to carefully tap in a few nails around the letters so that the template is held in place. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors and hammers.
Step 4Continue to carefully hammer nails around the outside of the letters, spacing them evenly as you go. Once you have completed each of the letters, gently lift the paper template up and rip it off the board.
Step 5Take the yarn and tie the end onto 1 of the nails in the first letter. Begin wrapping the yarn around all the nails in this letter, filling the space completely. You can wrap it in a particular pattern or simply crisscross the yarn randomly around your design. When the letter is complete, tie off and trim the yarn.
Step 6Repeat step 5, this time moving to the second then third letter until your design is complete.
Step 7Evenly space 5 mini pegs along the bottom of the string art board. These will be used to hold your photos! Use PVA glue to attach one side of each peg to the board. Allow to dry.
Step 8Use the hammer to carefully put a nail in the top left and right corners of the board. Cut a piece of twine and tie each end to a nail to create a hanger.
Step 9Print and cut out photos of yourself and Dad to peg along the bottom of the board. Your Father’s Day String Art is now ready to give to Dad!
