Step 1Take the skinny end of the tie and thread the point upwards through the loop, pulling the fabric all the way through.
Step 2Flip the tie over and lay it flat to decorate using Fabric Markers. Make sure you decorate approximately 8cm past where the loop sits. Flip the tie back over and decorate the other side as well. Allow to dry. Make sure you iron your tie if you wish to heat set your design.
Step 3Take a pair of scissors and carefully cut off the non-decorated section of tie. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors.
Step 4Make sure the undecorated piece of tie doesn’t go to waste! You could always create a decorative bow tie to go on top of your wrapped gift!
Step 5Thread 1m of black embroidery thread onto a needle so it’s doubled over then tie a knot in the ends. Take the cut end of the tie and use a blanket stitch to sew the edges together.
Step 6Slide a phone into the open, pointy end of the tie. Push the phone all the way into the tie, then fold up the bottom sewn end and fold down the top point as shown. Take careful note of where the point of the tie is sitting. You may wish to mark this point with a pencil.
Step 7Thread a piece of embroidery thread onto a needle so it’s doubled over and tie a knot in the ends. Place a button just below where the point sat in step 6 and sew in place.
Step 8Cut a short piece of elastic and double over, tying a knot in the ends. Place on the underside of the pointy end of the tie and sew in place using a needle and embroidery thread.
Step 9Your Tie Phone Cosy is now ready to gift to Dad!
