Mark the start of Reconciliation Week and commemorate National Sorry Day on the 26th of May with our Sorry Day poster. This poster has been designed by Kerri-Ann Taggart, an Indigenous digital artist from the Wonnarua area.
National Sorry Day (May 26) is about remembering and commemorating the Stolen Generations, and recognising how this history continues to affect so many Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander families. (National Sorry Day Committee, 2013)
Kerri-Ann explains the inspiration for her artwork:
“This year's theme is 'Bridging Now to Next'. Three large gathering symbols, representing the Past, Present, and Future, are connected yet not quite touching – capturing the essence of becoming connected (bridged between). The middle of the artwork flows a wide river. It symbolises Culture and the Dreamtime. This river holds the life force of culture, an obstacle to overcome but we can bridge from the past to now for a stronger future for culture.”
