Step 1Print out the template provided. We recommend printing onto cover paper as this provides a great surface for decorating. There are templates for 2 separate match box designs, so print as many as needed.
Step 2Decorate the template and use scissors to carefully cut out the designs. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors.
Step 3Construct the cardboard match boxes. There are 2 pieces to each box and they are scored to make assembly easy. Secure in place using double sided tape then decorate using coloured markers.
Step 4You will notice that some of the designs you decorated in step 2 have tabs while others don’t. The one’s without tabs will sit flat on the top surface of the match box. Align the rainbow design so it arcs from the top right hand side down to the bottom left. Position the shamrock pot of gold so it is centred along the top edge of the matchbox. Secure in place using double sided tape. Fold the tabs of the other pieces and use double sided tape to secure them on the inside left hand side of the matchbox. The leprechaun design on the other hand, will sit in the centre of its box.
Step 5Slide the match box sections together. You will see how the design works as a whole with the rainbow hitting the pot of gold or the leprechaun jumping out of the pot of gold.
Step 6Finish off your match box by adding in a message and extra design elements such as shamrocks. You could also add a touch of sparkle with some glitter! Allow to dry if needed.
Step 7Your match boxes are now ready to bring some St Patrick’s Day fun to your friends and family!
