Step 1Cut four 45cm lengths of armature wire. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors. Take one piece of wire and wrap an end around the bottle of tacky glue. Twist the short end onto the longer end of wire to create a loop, leaving a small 1cm piece of wire sticking out as shown. Remove the loop from the tacky glue bottle and bend the loop into a petal shape.
Step 2Take a red stocking piece and stretch it over the wire petal shape. Pull it firmly downwards and wrap around the base of the petal before bending the small wire end over the stocking to hold in place. Trim the excess stocking.
You can use any colour stocking to cover the wire. Once you’ve made the petals, apply tacky glue over the stocking and allow to fully dry before painting red. Allow the paint to dry.
Step 3Repeat steps 1 and 2 to create four petals. Begin to assemble the poppy by adding one petal at a time and wrapping the wire stems around each other to hold in place. Once they are all joined you can do any adjustments as the wire is pliable.
Step 4Starting from the base of the petals, wrap masking tape tightly around and down the full stem of the poppy, covering the wires.
Step 5Use a green permanent marker to colour the stem.
Step 6Finish the poppy by using tacky glue to attach a black pom pom in the centre of the flower. Allow to dry.
