Step 1Wet your canvas using a flat paint brush and clean water. Mix equal amounts of light blue and white acrylic paint. Paint the entire surface of your canvas and allow to dry. We have used 2 coats to make it super vibrant! Allow each coat to dry completely.
Step 2Divide your craft buttons into different colour groups. You’ll need red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and white buttons. Group each colour separately. The buttons can be various sizes and shades.
Step 3Form 2 cloud shapes using the white buttons - they don’t have to look identical! Place them about 3cm from the bottom, long edge of the canvas as shown. Don’t glue any buttons down just yet; we want to make sure the design fits properly first!
Step 4Create an arch using red buttons starting from the top of the left cloud stretching across to the right cloud. This arch will be the biggest, so you may need to search for more red buttons from your pack!
Step 5Create another arch underneath the red using orange buttons. Continue creating smaller arches underneath the previous colour in rainbow colour order until you reach purple. You may find that the buttons are moving about. If empty space occurs, try to fill the space with smaller buttons of the same colour in the arch.
Step 6Once you have created your rainbow, carefully apply glue to the back of each button and glue to your painted canvas. Your design may change slightly with the movement of the buttons as you go, but that’s okay! It’s all part of the creative process! Allow to dry completely.
