Indigenous Literacy Day is “an annual celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ Stories, Cultures, and Languages”. (https://www.ilf.org.au/ild) This colouring sheet has been illustrated by Kerri-Ann Taggart, an Aboriginal artist from the Wonnarua area. Kerri-Ann explains the inspiration for her artwork:
“I took inspiration from illustrated kids' books combined with culture artwork. As I wanted to connect to reading kids’ books, I felt like it was nice including kid like illustrations. The colouring page illustrates a group of adults and children sharing stories – linking with Indigenous Literacy Day’s ‘Strength is our Stories – For Now & Future Generations’. The Aboriginal woman is wearing and sharing her culture, through her ochre decorated face and body and through the curated books she has chosen to share with the excited crowd.”
