Step 1Download and print out the template provided. We recommend printing onto cover paper or cardboard as this provides a great surface for decorating.
These sheets can be enlarged or reduced on the photocopier depending on your needs.
Step 2Decorate your templates. We have used coloured markers however you could also use pencils or paint. Allow to dry if needed.
Step 3Cut around the outline of each piece on both template pages. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors. On the ‘Front’ template pieces, use a hole punch to create holes for hanging as indicated by the grey circles.
Step 4Cut four lengths of thread at least 10cm long. Tie the end of one thread piece to each of the small ‘Front’ template pieces. Attach each of these pieces to the larger ‘Front’ template piece by threading the length of thread through a hole in the bottom of the larger template piece. Loop the thread around and back through the hole before tying a knot to secure in place. Keeping the thread on the plain side of the template, loop through the corresponding hole in the top of the template and tie a knot to secure.
Make sure you attach each smaller piece to the larger piece in the right order for the theme of NAIDOC Week 2022 – “Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!”.
Step 5Apply glue to the plain side of the ‘Back’ template pieces. Attach them to the plain side of the corresponding ‘Front’ template pieces, making sure they are aligned.
Step 6Tie the loose threads from the top of the mobile onto the centre of a piece of driftwood or a stick. Cut another length of thread and tie each end to the wood to create a hanger. Trim any excess thread. Your NAIDOC Week Mobile is now ready to display!
