Commemorate National Sorry Day on the 26th of May with our Sorry Day Colouring In Sheet designed by Kerri-Ann Taggart (also known as KEZ), an Indigenous digital artist from the Wonnarua area in the Hunter Valley, NSW.
Kerri-Ann explains the inspiration for her artwork: “The hand, labelled as an Aboriginal hand (Aboriginal flag stamped on the ribbon) is grasping the ‘coming together/meeting place’ symbol. As it branches out it blossoms into the Native Hibiscus – the new journey we take acknowledging the past but moving forward to a better future. The ribbon, though ‘pretty’, is a reminder of the shackles once worn by some Indigenous people.”
National Sorry Day (May 26) is about remembering and commemorating the Stolen Generations, and recognising how this history continues to affect so many Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander families. (National Sorry Day Committee, 2013)
