Winter Solstice Activity

Winter Solstice is a special event that occurs every year. In the Southern Hemisphere we celebrate Winter Solstice between 20th - 22nd of June, marking the shortest day of the year!
  • Step 1Download and print the templates provided onto cardboard. This will provide a great surface for decorating and sturdiness for construction.
  • Step 2Decorate the 3 different templates using your favourite craft materials. Allow to dry if needed then cut around the thick black line of each piece. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors.
  • Step 3Attach piece 2 on top of piece 1 by aligning the small centre circles and pushing a paper fastener through the middle. You may need to pierce each hole individually first using a pin and then align. Make sure piece 2 can turn freely.
  • Step 4Fold along the dotted lines on piece 3.
  • Step 5Place double sided tape or glue where the word ‘Glue’ is written on piece 3. Attach piece 3 to piece 1, making sure it is aligned to the edges. You will also need to align it to the left side of piece 1 so it sits above and covers most of piece 2.
  • Step 6Your activity is now ready to help you learn all about Winter Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere!
