Step 1Take the lid of the plastic jar and colour it black using a permanent marker.
Step 2Cut the cellophane squares into small pieces. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors. Use a glue stick to glue the cellophane pieces inside the plastic jar. Continue to apply cellophane pieces until the inside of the jar is completely covered.
Step 3Use a permanent marker to write a message or draw a silhouette on the outside of the jar. We have drawn a cross and written the words ‘Lest We Forget’.
Step 4Download and print the template provided. Use the template to cut out a poppy shape from red cardboard. Draw in some details using the permanent marker.
Step 5Push the poppy onto the bottom of the jar. It should fit snuggly over the bottom ridge and sit in place. Switch a battery LED tealight candle on and place it into the jar.
DO NOT use a naked flame in this project. Only use a battery LED tealight for safety reasons.
Step 6Screw the lid onto the jar. Create a handle for the lantern using 2 chenille stems, twisting them in place as shown.
Step 7Turn off the lights and watch the warm glow of your beautiful Commemoration Poppy Lantern!
