Abstract Clay Hanging Planter

Step 1Take your first colour of clay and warm it up between your hands. Condition the clay by rolling it around in your palms and as it begins to soften, start moulding it into a long sausage shape. Place on a flat surface in front of you and roll it out further, making it long and skinny. You should roll the clay using the full length of your hand, not just the fingers, gently pressing and moving your hands from the middle outwards as you do so.
Step 2Repeat step 1 with another one or more chosen colours. Think about colours that are going to work nicely together in a design.
Step 3Take the hanging planter and remove the twine, popping it to the side for later. Take your first colour of clay and begin to lay it over the porcelain to create a fun pattern. Repeat this with your remaining colours of clay. Once you are happy with the design, press the pieces firmly onto the surface without flattening the design too much.

Step 4Place the decorated planter into a cold conventional oven and bake according to the polymer clay instructions. Adult supervision is recommended when using an oven. Keep an eye on the clay as it bakes so it doesn’t overheat or get discolouration on the lighter colours of clay. Once it has finished baking, turn the oven off and allow it to cool completely before removing from the oven.
Step 5Re-string the twine you removed in step 3 to create the hanger.
Step 6Now your Abstract Clay Hanging Planter is ready for gifting - you could even add a plant!
