Step 1Start by making a bead with air dry clay. Take 10g of clay and roll it into a ball – this will be our bead. Take a scratch board tool and push it through the middle of the bead. Wiggle the tool to stretch the hole so it is quite large, making sure you keep the round shape of the bead. The hole needs to be quite large so that it can fit two lengths of paracord through it. Smooth down any rough edges as needed. Allow the bead to air dry completely and then paint it brown. Allow to dry.
Step 2Cut two 1m lengths of yellow paracord. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors. Align the ends of the cords and then fold both lengths in half. Attach the cords to a wooden ring using one cow hitch knot.

Step 3Cut a 1m length of green paracord and place behind the yellow cord, just under the ring. Position it so the yellow cords sit over the middle point of the green cord. Attach the green cord to the yellow cords by tying a square knot.
Step 4Bring the left green cord over to the right and the right over to the left, creating a small ring on top of the yellow cords as shown. Take the two yellow cords on the left and flip them up and over the green cords, then back down behind so they are wrapped around the green cords as shown. Repeat with the two yellow cords on the right. Begin to pull the green cords outwards, tightening the ring. As you do this, gently pull down on the yellow cords, adjusting until they sit tightly looped under the square knot with the green cords out either side as shown.
Step 5Pull the yellow cord on the left out to the side, making sure it is underneath the green cord. Loop it over the top of the green cord and back under then pull it tight so it fastens up near the top. Loop the same yellow cord back around the same green cord but this time loop under the green cord first, then back up through the loop of the yellow cord. Pull tight so it sits up next to the first knot.
Step 6Repeat step 5 using the same yellow cord on the left to create a second set of knots. Repeat the process on the right-hand side with the yellow cord on the right. You should now have two sets of knots on the left green cord and two sets of knots on the right green cord as shown.
Step 7Thread your bead from step 1 onto the two loose yellow cords hanging in the middle. Push the bead right to the top of the cords.
Step 8Bring the left green cord over to the right and the right over to the left. Take the two yellow cords on the left and flip them up and over the green cords, then back down behind so they are wrapped around the green cords as shown. Repeat with the two yellow cords on the right. Begin to pull the green cords out cords outwards. As you do this, gently pull down on the yellow cords, adjusting until they sit tightly looped under the bead, securing it in place.
Step 9Use the green cords to tie a square knot around all four yellow cords.
Step 10Tie a simple bow with the green cords.
Step 11Think about the length you would like the cords and then trim them carefully with scissors. Add glue to the end of all cords to stop them fraying and allow to dry. Alternatively, an adult can use a match or lighter to carefully melt the ends of the cords.
Step 12Your Paracord Sunflower is now ready to display! You can hang it in your room, or you might want to add a split ring to turn it into a keyring or bag tag!
