Summer Weaving Shapes

Escape the heat and the boredom these summer holidays with our wonderful weaving shapes! Simply download our free templates, pick your favourite summertime icon and get weaving!
  • Step 1Print out our free templates of summer designs. We recommend printing onto Cover Paper as this provides a great surface for decorating.
  • Step 2Decorate the designs using watercolours then allow to dry.
  • You could also use markers, pencils or crayons to decorate.
  • Step 3Cut out your decorated designs and glue onto coloured cardboard. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors. This will give a nice sturdy base for weaving. When dry, cut around the designs again, leaving a 5mm border of coloured cardboard.
  • Step 4Use a sewing needle to carefully poke holes around the designs using the small circles as guides.
  • Step 5Thread a length of coloured yarn onto the sewing needle and tie a large double knot at the other end. Using the holes you made in the previous step, begin to weave your way around the design. You can make any pattern you want! Tie a knot when you get close to the end of your yarn and start again until you have completed your design!
  • If you are having trouble threading your needle, wrap the end of the yarn in a small piece of sticky tape. This will create a hard tip that will be easier to thread.
