Step 1Begin by giving your lantern frame a coat of white paint. Allow to dry. This is not essential but provides a good base for painting.
Step 2Choose the craft paper you would like to use.
Step 3Paint your frame a colour to match the craft paper you have chosen. Allow to dry.
Step 4Lay your paper face down and place your frame on top of it. Trace around the frame.
Step 5Cut out the frame shape. Then cut the shape in half running horizontally.
Step 6Glue your craft paper to the bottom section of your frame.
Step 7Flip your frame over and attach your photo to the back using sticky tape.
Step 8Attach your gold tassel to the back of your frame using sticky tape.
Step 9Finally thread some metallic gold yarn through the hole at the top ready to hang up!
Step 10To make a tassel, grab a piece of cardboard and wind the yarn around it. Continue to wind until you have covered the cardboard in yarn.
Step 11Cut an extra piece of yarn and thread it under the yarn at the top edge of the cardboard. Bring the yarn ends together and tie a knot to secure it.
Step 12Carefully slip the yarn loops off the cardboard.
Step 13Tie another piece of yarn around the top third of the yarn loops to make “the head” of the tassel. Cut the yarn loops at the bottom to finish your tassel.
