Step 1Cut the lid off your egg carton and then cut the side strip off the base of the egg carton.
Step 2Glue the base of the egg carton on top of the lid. Allow to dry.
Step 3Paint the outside of the entire egg carton brown and the inside of the base gold. Paint the extra strip brown on one side and gold on the other. Allow to dry.
Step 4Attach the egg carton strip with glue onto the ship like a handle on one end. Allow to dry.
Step 5Cut out 2 blue rectangles of cover paper and poke a skewer through each.
Step 6Poke the skewers into the egg carton to create the ships sails.
Step 7Create the ship’s bunting by gluing small red paper triangles along a piece of string. Allow to dry.
Step 8Glue a medium and large wooden bead onto a skewer and glue into place. Poke the skewer into the front of the ship. This will be the ship’s figurehead.
Step 9Attach yellow yarn to the large bead of your figurehead with glue for the hair and attach 2 wiggle eyes and a small paper mouth. Allow to dry.
Step 10Attach 1 end of the bunting to the head of the figurehead and the other end to the tip of the closest sail.
Step 11Create the Captain’s helm and steering wheel using black foam. Attach with glue.
Step 12Cut out an anchor from gold foil cardboard and attach to a piece of twine.
Step 13Wind the twine around a wooden spool and attach the spool to the side of the ship using a chenille stem and glue.
Step 14Attach a wooden bead to the top of each sail with glue. Allow to dry.
Step 15You may like to create a wooden bead doll captain. We painted his shirt white and his pants red. We then cut a hat and belt from black cover paper, belt buckle from foil paper and mouth from red cover paper. Attach with glue. Lastly we attached 2 wiggle eyes with glue and attached a small feather to his hat!
