Step 1 Print out the template, as provided in our galloping horse idea (LINK). Cut out your template and glue it to the cardboard for a sturdier base for decorating. Cut out your pieces.
Step 2 Take your hole punch and carefully punch out the holes in the template as indicated by the circles. You will also need to punch holes where the X’s are – these indicate where the paper fasteners will be going.
Step 3 Use markers, pencils or paints to decorate your horse. Make sure to colour both sides! Add character to your horse with some wiggle eyes and a smiling face.
Step 4 Lay the pieces onto each other before you begin so you know which legs will go where. The body of the horse will sit between the legs. Slide paper fasteners through the corresponding holes and bend the back of the paper fasteners to hold in place while still allowing easy movement.
Step 5 Cut 18 pieces of wool, each measuring 12cm long. Take a piece and fold in half. Thread the looped end into one of the holes along the horses neck and loop the 2 ends over and through the loop to create a slip knot as shown. Repeat this with another piece in the same hole. Continue this technique using 2 pieces in each hole until the mane is full.
Step 6 Cut 12 pieces of wool, each measuring 6cm long. Use the same technique as the mane to fasten 3 pieces of wool on each foot - one around each edge and then a third around the centre.
Step 7 Cut 5 pieces of wool, each measuring 26cm long. Hold all in a bundle and fold in half, threading the looped end through the tail hole. Fasten as with the mane and feet by pushing the free ends over and through the loop.
Step 8 Using 3 glue dots, attach the skewer to the middle of the horse. Press firmly for a strong hold. Colour the top of the skewer the same colour as the horse and you are now ready to gallop in the fields!
