DIY Book Week Costume: Wizard

One of the most popular (and also quite easy!) dress ups come Book Week is a wizard from the Harry Potter universe created by J.K. Rowling. Choose your house and decorate your accessories accordingly as you transform in 5 easy steps.
  • Step 1Start by decorating your cardboard tie in your chosen house colours using paint. Allow to dry.
  • Step 2Cut a piece of elastic long enough to fit comfortably around your neck. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors. Thread one end of the elastic through one of the holes at the top of the tie and secure with a large knot so it won’t pull back through the hole. Thread the other end through the other hole and tie another large knot. Trim any excess elastic.
  • Step 3Decorate the cardboard glasses with paint. Allow to dry. Fold in the arms of the glasses ready to wear.
  • Step 4Take one dowel and 10g of super light air dry clay. Begin to mould the clay around the dowel, sculpting it down and around the full length of the dowel, then extend it off the end making it thinner the further you go. Rest on a flat surface and allow to dry. This will be your wand.
  • Step 5Decorate the wand with paint and allow to dry. Your accessories are now ready to transform you into a Wizard!
  • Complete the student wizard look with our graduation gown!
