Suri's Wall Imagine Watercolour Bricks

Download Activity Guide

This activity is based on the book 'Suri's Wall' written by Lucy Estela and illustrated by Matt Ottley. Create an amazing watercolour brick wall and delve into your imagination. What would you like to see over your back fence? What incredible things can you imagine? What adventure will you go on?
Suri has a wonderful imagination which she uses to make the other children feel safe, secure and happy in their environment. What makes you happy?

  • Step 1Using an A3 piece of white paper, paint the entire page with similar tones of watercolour. Allow to dry.
  • Step 2To create your bricks, divide the piece of paper evenly into 12 rectangles.
  • If you are using this for a classroom activity you could adjust the size and amount of bricks per child to suit your needs.
  • Step 4Cut out your bricks and lay them out how you would like them to be displayed.
  • Step 5Glue some of the bricks flat onto your piece of cardboard, and the remaining bricks tape the top down so that the brick can be flipped up to reveal what is underneath.
  • Step 6Draw or paint images underneath the revealing bricks of things you might like to imagine over your back fence. We have used watercolour paints but you could also use pencils, markers or photos! Display your beautiful wall with the heading ‘You could only Imagine’.
