Woven Poppy

Develop your fine motor skills whilst creating a beautiful Woven Poppy for ANZAC Day.
  • Step 1Paint your paper plate using CleverPatch™ red acrylic paint. Allow to dry.
  • Step 2Use a ruler and pencil to mark 8 lines diagonally from each other and at equal distances around the paper plate.
  • Step 3Cut out a small triangle where you have placed each pencil mark. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors.
  • Step 4In the top point of each triangle, cut a small slit 1cm long (this will hold the yarn).
  • Step 5Cut a piece of red yarn 1m long. Slot the yarn between one of the slits you made in step 4 and attach it to the back using sticky tape.
  • Step 6Weave the yarn diagonally across the plate, crossing it over at the back and continuing until the soft yarn is through each slot.
  • Step 7Cut 1m of black yarn and tie 1 end to the red yarn in the centre of the plate.
  • Step 8Weave the black yarn over and under each pieces of red yarn and continue until you run out. You will need to thread over on the 7th and 8th piece of red yarn to ensure the pattern keeps alternating. Tie the loose end to the closest piece of red yarn.
  • Step 9Repeat the same process with the pink yarn.
  • Step 10Use a glue dot to attach a pom pom to the centre of the woven yarn circle.
  • Step 11Punch a hole into 1 petal on the plate and thread a 10cm piece of black yarn through. Tie the ends together. Your poppy is now ready to display on ANZAC Day!
