Boat Desk Tidy

Aye aye captain! Keep that desk clean, with this ultra cute boat desk tidy. You'll never lose a paperclip again with it safely stowed away in its specially designed compartment. Dad will love this desk tidy gift this Father's Day because it has been made with love, care and attention by you!

  • Step 1Begin by cutting out an arch shape, to create the base of your boat (approximately 20cm x 13cm).
  • Step 2Cut long strips (approximately 4cm thick) to create the walls and compartments.
  • Step 3Use sticky tape to attach the strips to the outside of your boat base, creating walls.
  • Step 4Trim your strips to size and create compartments within your boat. Attach with tape. Give your boat a coat of brown paint. Allow to dry
  • Step 5Paint some cardboard rolls with black paint. Allow to dry.
  • Step 6Cut up approximately 30 popsticks in half. This amount will vary depending on the size of your desk tidy.
  • Step 7Attach the cardboard rolls and popsticks to your boat as shown. We used a hot glue gun to attach these components as it offered a fast adhesion, but PVA glue or tape would suffice
  • Adult assistance required when using a hot glue gun.
  • Step 9Create a flag for your desk tidy. This can be where you personalise the boat for Dad. We added colour to our flag with watercolour paint, and detail using a black fineliner. Allow to dry.
  • Step 10Push a skewer through the edge of the flag to create a pole for your flag.
  • Step 11Attach the flagpole to the inside of one of the cardboard rolls. Attach with glue.
