Step 1Print and cut out the template provided onto white cardboard. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors. You can either colour the template pieces or trace onto coloured cardboard and cut out. Make sure each rectangle is a different bright colour! We recommend using cardboard for this activity as it will create a sturdy surface for creating your caterpillar.
Step 2Roll the six rectangles into cylinders and use glue to secure the end tab as indicated by the dotted lines. Allow to dry.
Step 3Create your caterpillar’s head by attaching the antennae to one of the cylinders and draw a face. You may also like to attach some wiggle eyes. Allow to dry.
Step 4Glue all the cylinders together in a row as shown to create the body of your caterpillar, making sure the head is at the front. Allow to dry.
Step 5Flip your caterpillar over and attach one end of the paper strip to the base of the head with a glue dot. On the last cylinder of the body, place a glue dot on either side of the paper strip.
Step 6Press the end of the caterpillar to the base of the leaf near the stem. Your Spring Moving Caterpillar is now ready! Gently pull and push the paper strip to move your caterpillar back and forth.
