3D Wooden Flying Bird

  • Step 1Cut 3 pieces of jute twine; one 25cm long, one 15cm long, and one 3.1m long.
  • Step 2Place the body piece between the 2 wings, aligning the holes on all 3 pieces.
  • Step 3Thread your 25cm piece of jute twine through the holes lining up on the right side and then back through the holes lining up on the left side. Tie firmly to secure.
  • Step 4With the wings still aligned you should see 2 holes that line up 2/3 of the way along the bird’s wings. Thread the 3.1m length of jute twine through the holes on the right side. Push the thread back through the holes on the left side. Tie a knot at the loose ends of the twine.
  • Step 5Pull the wings apart. Pull both pieces of the jute twine evenly, above the bird’s body.
  • Step 6Thread the elastic through the middle hole on your bird’s back. Tie to secure.
  • Step 7Pull the loose end of the elastic up to the top midpoint of the jute twine. Adjust the end of the elastic until it allows the bird’s body to float with its wings sticking out straight.
  • Step 8Tie the elastic to the jute twine to secure.
  • Step 9To create a weight for your bird, thread your 15cm piece of jute twine through the hole on the bottom of your bird. Thread the bead onto this twine. Tie to secure.
