The perfect activity for extending on the book ‘Bowerbird Blues’ written and illustrated by Aura Parker and published by Scholastic Australia. ‘Bowerbird Blues’ will be read as part of the ALIA National Simultaneous Storytime 2024 event!

Step 1Begin by painting the wooden palette of the Nature Seeking Adventure Kit. Allow to dry.
Step 2Add in some details to your design with a permanent pen. We have added some words from the book ‘Bowerbird Blues’ by Aura Parker.
Step 3If playing your game indoors, fill craft bowls with various coloured collage materials ready for sorting.
Step 4Begin to sort the pieces! How many blue pieces can you find? What shapes do they come in? How many of the same piece can you find? Depending on the age of the child you may wish to give sorting prompts or have children race each other. You may wish to include tongs or tweezers for sorting to also improve fine motor skills.
If it’s a nice day, why not take your game outside into nature! How many blue items can you find outside? Once you have sorted all of the blue items you can use the cards provided in the Nature Seeking Adventure Kit to find other items!
